Why the Book of Jude Quotes Enoch
Jude 1:14-15 cites Enoch by name. What that tells us about how the earliest believers regarded the text.
In verses 14 and 15 of his short letter, Jude names Enoch directly and quotes a prophecy that matches 1 Enoch 1:9 almost word for word.
This single citation tells us a great deal: the text of Enoch was known, respected, and treated as authoritative by at least some of the earliest believers.
It also frames Jude’s warning about ungodliness within the same tradition of judgment that runs through the Watcher narrative.
