Joshua 11:21-22

And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities. There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained.
Joshua cuts off the Anakim from the hill country, but the text carefully notes a remnant survived in three Philistine cities: Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod. Gath is the city Goliath later comes from.
This verse is the hinge between the Anakim of the conquest and the Philistine giants of the monarchy. The surviving pocket in Gath explains where Goliath and his kin came from generations later.

C.K. Quarterman highlights the surgical detail here: the Anakim are wiped out of the hill country "only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained." That surviving remnant in Gath is not a throwaway line. It is the textual bridge to Goliath, "descended from the giant" of Gath in 2 Samuel 21:22, and it shows the biblical authors tracking these clans as a continuous lineage across centuries, not as scattered unrelated legends.
