Nimrod
Also known as: the mighty hunter, founder of Babel
The mighty hunter "before the Lord" who founded Babel and the first kingdoms in the land of Shinar.
Nimrod appears in Genesis 10:8-12 as a grandson of Ham and "a mighty one in the earth," credited with founding Babel, Erech, Accad, and other cities in Shinar.
His kingdom is often read as the seedbed of organized rebellion against God, culminating in the Tower of Babel.
Later Jewish and Christian tradition expanded Nimrod into a figure of tyranny and idolatry, tying him to the ancient kingdoms built in the shadow of the fallen.
