C.K. Quarterman holds the angelic view of Genesis 6, both before and after the Flood. The "sons of God" (bene elohim) is not a term Scripture uses loosely — Job 1:6, 2:1, and 38:7 all use the same phrase for angelic beings in the divine council, never for human men, and Genesis 6:4 keeps that meaning intact by noting the Nephilim appeared "before" the Flood and "also afterward," the same corrupting union recurring on both sides of the judgment. Reading "sons of God" as human men — Sethites marrying Cainites, or kings taking multiple wives — doesn't explain why the result was Nephilim, a term the text treats as a distinct and terrifying category in Numbers 13:33. An angelic transgression, a boundary broken between heaven and earth, explains both the severity of the Flood judgment and why the Anakim, Rephaim, Emim, and Zamzummim later appear as established clans rather than a bloodline slowly thinning out over generations.
