What Did the Watchers Teach Humanity?
Also known as: Grigori, sons of God
The Book of Enoch describes how the fallen Watchers taught humanity weapons, cosmetics, enchantments, astrology, and divination, and why this forbidden knowledge was deemed sinful.
What Did the Watchers Teach Humanity?
The Book of Enoch names the Watchers who taught weapons, cosmetics, enchantments, and astrology. This post lists each teacher and what the book says each lesson became.
Watchers: a class of heavenly beings named in Daniel 4 and the Book of Enoch. The fallen Watchers are the two hundred angels who descended on Mount Hermon.
Azazel: the Watcher in 1 Enoch who taught humanity to make weapons and cosmetics, also written Asael.
What Did the Watchers Teach Humanity?
The Watchers taught humans to make weapons and cosmetics, to work metals and stones, and to practice enchantments, astrology, and divination by clouds, earth, sun, and moon. The Book of Enoch lists the teachers by name (1 Enoch 8:1-4). The Watchers Fallen treats this knowledge as given for control, not for building.
## After the Oath
Two hundred Watchers swore an oath on Mount Hermon. Once sworn, no single Watcher could change his mind alone. Genesis says little about what happened after they came down. Enoch fills the gap. The Watchers took wives, and they taught.
## Azazel: Weapons and Cosmetics
“And Azazel taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures.” (1 Enoch 8:1)
Before Azazel, men fought with stone, wood, and their hands. Enoch says the angel gave them metal and showed them how to shape it into blades and armor. The book follows that gift through bronze, iron, steel, gunpowder, and the machine gun to July 16, 1945, when men split the atom in a New Mexico desert. Robert Oppenheimer later recalled a line from the Bhagavad Gita, that he had become death, the destroyer of worlds. The book calls the atom bomb that teaching carried forward.
Azazel’s second gift was cosmetics: bracelets, ornaments, antimony for darkening the eyes, and dyes. Enoch ties this teaching to fornication and deception. The book connects it to the modern beauty industry and to social media, which delivers one message to billions: a person’s worth depends on how closely they resemble something they are not.
## The Other Teachers
Enoch names seven more Watchers and the knowledge each gave (1 Enoch 8:3-4):
Semjaza: enchantments and root-cuttings
Armaros: the resolving of enchantments
Baraqijal: astrology
Kokabel: the constellations
Ezeqeel: the knowledge of the clouds
Araqiel: the signs of the earth
Shamsiel: the signs of the sun
Sariel: the course of the moon
The book reads Semjaza’s teaching as the manipulation of plants and ritual spells, which runs forward into folk magic and potion craft. It reads Baraqijal and Kokabel as the root of the horoscope and the birth‑chart app. The last four teachers cover sun, moon, cloud, and ground. The book ties them to fortune telling and to every service that promises to tell a stranger what tomorrow holds.
## What the Book Says Was Wrong
The book states that metal, skincare, and the stars are not evil. Iron built plows as well as swords. The corruption was the purpose: knowledge cut off from God and handed to humans by beings who had already shown they could not be trusted with their own choices.
## The Cost
Enoch records that men perished and their cry went up to heaven. The archangels Michael, Uriel, Raphael, and Gabriel looked down and saw the blood. God sentenced Azazel, and Enoch gives the verdict: “to him ascribe all sin” (1 Enoch 10:8).
## Where to Look Today
The book suggests three places to recognize the pattern:
Technology sold as pure progress with no mention of its cost.
Industries built on convincing people they are not enough as they are.
Systems that promise certainty about the future in exchange for money or devotion.
